Shell House a Hidden Gem in Isla Mujeres

Friday, 10 September 2021

The Shell House is a hidden gem on Isla Mujeres that offers fantastic views of the Caribbean Sea. It's shape is so similar to a shell and so close to the sea, viewers should wonder if a giant shell simply washed to the ground for her inhabitants.

In fact, the house was designed by one of the most famous artists in Mexico, Octavio Ocampo, and his brother Eduardo, an architect who dreamed of building a shell-shaped house. The construction began in 2001, and it took three years to be completed. The house is a perfect exhibition of the Surreal functionality of the Ocampo summer meeting, and adds a single underwater aesthetic to the neighborhood.

The masterpiece of the sea is so close to the lifestyle of the sea snail as a human being. Apart from its impressive resembling the shell on its façade, Shell's house has a lot of details in the form of a sea too. The sinks and faucets are made of coral and shell, and the head of the master bedroom is designed as a massive scale housing. Sirens paintings by Octavio Ocampo hang on the walls.

The house is available for rent, and Eduardo and his wife Rachel live next door. However, the house can be rented for private events and parties, or a romantic getaway.
